Roslin Innovation Centre is part of The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies (R(D)SVS), within the University of Edinburgh. The School strategy is focussed on solving One Health challenges, with innovation at its core.
Roslin Innovation Centre supports research innovation and engagement activity across all five of the School clusters - the five research divisions of the School and eight divisions within the Roslin Institute.
Beyond R(D)SVS, we actively collaborate with Schools across the University of Edinburgh which have association with A3 and One Health sectors. Primarily our main activity is with the other Research Institutes and Centres within the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine Institutes and Centres, Biological Sciences, and School of Geosciences.
Roslin Innovation Centre works closely with Edinburgh Innovations to ensure that early stage start-ups are nurtured and supported as they scale up and grow. We work closely with the business development team on Campus to identify those in need of support on their innovation journey, and to ensure they are linked into the appropriate support services available, for University Staff and for Students.
Roslin Innovation provides a home for innovation activity within the Easter Bush Campus Agri-tech Hub, and works closely with the other Data Driven Innovation (DDI) Hubs to participate in entrepreneurial schemes, joint events, collaborative research and course delivery.
Through DDI activity, we contribute to the innovation themes, events and activity within the City Region Deal led by the Edinburgh & South East Regional Enterprise Council Regional Enterprise Council, a partnership of six regional councils responsible for the delivery of a Regional Prosperity Framework for the South East of Scotland.
Roslin Innovation Centre is part of Midlothian Science Zone, which brings together the science and research entities co-located across the Bush Estate in Midlothian, with One Health being a central theme which links our activity.

Roslin Innovation Centre hosts monthly lunchtime seminars for tenants and members, on a variety business-related topics, such as funding opportunities, data security, R&D tax breaks, mental health awareness, and lab sustainability.
The seminars typically feature a short presentation followed by a Q&A session, with an opportunity for attendees to have one-on-one meetings with presenters afterwards. We encourage attendance in-person, to build engagement between tenant companies and individuals although can provide online access on request.
In partnership with Edinburgh Innovations, Roslin Innovation Centre hosts a drop-in centre for aspiring entrepreneurs once a month.
Knowledgeable experienced staff are on hand to offer advice and help to any budding entrepreneur, from exploring an idea's potential for a business venture, through to helping you follow the steps required to turn your business idea into reality.
These sessions take place on the fourth Thursday of the month from 10am to 3pm with drop-in at any time.
If any advice is required, outwith the period of drop-in session, please contact the Roslin Innovation Centre Director to arrange a meeting.
The Easter Bush Oncology Group host monthly seminar meetings in the Roslin Institute on various aspects of oncology. This is an opportunity for Campus individuals to hear more about the work taking place and meet others on Campus focussed on this area.
Join the MS Teams Group to receive updates, schedules and materials, which will be circulated to members of this team.
The Coding Club is a 'digital drop-in' at Easter Bush on Tuesdays, effective 03/03/2026* until 22/04/2026 from 1pm to 2pm at the Vet School G.03. These sessions are open to all and you can attend as many as you want.
No programming/ coding experience is required, as long as you have a problem e.g. want to automatise the processing of an Excel table or plot your data using R, come along. Likewise, if you’re a seasoned programmer and handler of big data, but want to practise the newest cool language or improve the readability of your code then you're also welcome.
There will be open sessions without a theme/ topic so you can just practice and work on your code in groups e.g. ‘peer-programming’, or ask the more experienced programmers for help with a specific problem.
The sessions on specific topics such as R packages (17th March), ‘clean coding’, ‘unit testing’ etc. , are where a volunteer will take the lead and share their wisdom with the group.
* Please note, on 10th March, due to a special Coding Club Event for UoE Campuses (detailed below), there won’t be a drop-in session.
The programming sessions are organised in an informal manner, but hugely supported by Dr Andy Law and members of the Bioinformatics team - on 17th March, Donald and Seb will deliver an R course.
Join the conversation on the Data Methods Club Teams channel for better communications.
A Coding Club event is being hosted on 10th March 2026 at the Vet School Computer Rooms G.03 and G.03 (off the Vet School Foyer) will bring together like-minded colleagues - bioinformaticians, part-time coders, and anyone interested in coding/bioinformatics, to exchange experiences across the different University of Edinburgh campuses and networks, as well as talks from bioinformaticians and coders from other Campuses.
Roslin Innovation Centre individuals who are bioinformaticians, or have an interest in coding/bioinformatics, are welcome to attend.
